We asked our makers what they find “irresistible” about New York State. Here’s what they had to say…

“Lush green days of the summer, wild woods in the autumn, silence on a snow day, and the remembrance of this come Spring.”

“We love that New York has more maple trees than top producing Quebec in Canada. Sweet.”

“There are a few things I find irresistible about NYS, but I think the two I have to pick are the state’s diversity...and apples! Everything about New York is diverse, from the people to the cities to the topography. Get in the car and drive in any direction for an hour and you will be in a completely different place. Fall in New York State is just my favorite. I’ve always loved the change in weather, the colors, the smells; but going to college in the Hudson valley really made me appreciate apples. Going apple picking was the thing you did on weekends. And I learned to love apple orchards and all that come along with them — hay rides, cider, doughnuts. There’s nothing like picking an apple right off the tree and taking a bite. I would not be one bit upset if it was fall all year round.”

“New York has it all, beautiful architecture, great food, great music, the most interesting people doing the most interesting projects. It’s exciting, inspiring, and has something for everyone.”

“We love that the sparkly soot that covers the streets of New York City is rivaled only by the magic soil of New York’s ‘Black Dirt Region’, a band of land just 90 miles away from Manhattan that claims some of the most mineral-rich, fertile soil in the country. (Apparently, it’s the remnants of a 12,000 old glacial lake!) Turns out, the irresistibly good stuff that makes up the foundation of New York State helps all sorts of things grow...ideas, arts, businesses, relationships...and vegetables!”

“I love New York for its ability to contain within it cities, culture diversity, creativity and amazing agriculture, wilderness, mountains, really old forests and even some ocean.”

“New York State is irresistible because it has everything! The best city in the world – New York City, but also quaint small towns, beautiful beaches, and gorgeous mountains.”

“What I find irresistible is New York's Dutch heritage. Scattered along the Hudson Valley are the remnants of a lost civilization; Dutch stone houses and Dutch name places. Imagine that the first European New Yorkers spoke Dutch, were subject to a Dutch king, and had Dutch customs.”

“We have the greatest city in the country and gorgeous farmland. We have people of every background and Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty to remind us of who we are. We have gorgeous beaches and lakes. We are a haven for artists and nonprofits. We have a full range of industries.”

“I love the fact that we here in New York get to enjoy four very different seasons. From the hot and humid (ugh, lol) summers that at least impart gloriously long, sun-filled days to the freezing, snowy (if we're lucky) winters, to the crisp, apple-scented autumn and the wet and soft green spring...we have it all. Also, at least from my part of the state, being so close to a major metropolitan area like NYC but surrounded by countless orchards and farms (with incredible culture in both realms!) we truly have it made.”
Kristin, Ardent Homesteader

“What we find so irresistible about New York: The PEOPLE! This is not just true of Rochester but of New York at large. All across our state from Buffalo to Seneca Falls and on down the Hudson Valley, people are really embracing their communities. Whether it's a small brewery in the Southern Tier, a consignment craft store in the North Country, or a farm share in New Paltz — New Yorkers are finding all sorts of creative and inspiring ways to embrace and celebrate the places they call home. This feeling is unmistakable, infectious, and truly irresistible!”

“I love living in NYC and being an artist because there is so much going on to stimulate my creative juices. I love that the city is such an animal and dog friendly place. Pet owners are some of the nicest people in NYC. You can walk up to anyone with a dog usually and strike up a conversation in NYC in the parks or on the sidewalks. It makes being a pet portrait artist so enjoyable.”

“What's not to love about New York State...I love the diversity...the landscape...from the rolling hills to the mountains, to the beaches. From deep rural living in the country to the exciting vibrancy of the most magnificent city in the world; the farmer's markets that bring locally grown food to our doorsteps; the makers of everything from soaps to beers to handmade clothing; and most of all, the people of diverse cultures who call New York their home and who bring their own unique talents and beliefs to this great state.”

“I love that New York has so much — an incredible city with absolutely everything, but you can head upstate and find yourself surrounded by gorges, waterfalls, farmland, and the most beautiful scenery. It's the best!”

“When most people think of New York State, they think of New York City. Unfortunately they miss out on the State's beautiful farms and how we turn grapes into wine, hops into beer, apples into hard cider, sap into syrup…”

“We love the diversity of the state — the diversity of people, terrains, industry. We have a whole economy and a whole world within the borders of our state.”

“What Sol Cacao finds irresistible about New York State is the people and culture. New York State is filled with dreamers going after their goals. You can find people trying to redefine conventional agriculture, discovering the latest treatment, or starting an innovative business all in the same community. With everyone chasing their dreams, New York has a culture that makes anything possible with hard work. New York's culture coupled with the amazing people from around the world has made New York irresistible to our family and business.”

“We love living in New York State! Within our borders, we can experience all the changing seasons, varied terrains, and a myriad of activities — the majesty of winter wonderland skiing in the Adirondacks, rejuvenating vacations at the Montauk seashore, the serene beauty of kayaking in the Finger Lakes, enjoying the arts and culture of a bustling Saratoga summer, and quick trips to our beloved New York City for business and pleasure throughout the year.”

“New York City is one of my favorites cities and there are a number of things I find irresistible about it. And here they are: The diversity of different cultures sharing the same space, that gives NYC such a beautiful and somehow balanced energy. The amazing landscape that surrounds the city. All the delicious food you can find pretty much at any time.I can go on and on, but I will stop here. New York City is a very interesting city, but yet it's big, dirty, noisy, and at the same time irresistible”
