From Isabel's Kitchen: Immune Boosting Tonic Recipe

While this tonic is available for purchase at Isabel Tonelli's eponymous Isabel's Kitchen cafe/shop in Pine Plains, N.Y., she's shared the recipe with us so that we can be in a wellness state of mind at any time, in any place.



6 oz. Organic orange juice

1 oz. Organic ginger juice

2 oz. Aloe vera juice (Isabel recommends Lily of the Desert or George’s)

¼  tsp. Organic tumeric powder or 1 Tbsp fresh turmeric root juice


Mix all the ingredients well and drink on an empty stomach. Wait 30 minutes before having any other drink or food. Allow your body to assimilate all the healing benefits of this powerful tonic. Serves 2.

About the ingredients:

Orange juice: Rich in vitamin C. Vitamin C is one of the most important antioxidants that helps support a healthy immune system. Oranges are rich in calcium, potassium and folate.

Ginger: A rich source of antioxidants including gingerols, shogaols, zingerones, and more. Ginger actually has broad-spectrum antibacterial, antiviral, antioxidant, and anti-parasitic properties, to name just several of its more than 40 pharmacological actions.

Aloe vera: Aloe vera juice is crammed full of amino acids, vitamins and minerals making it one of nature’s most effective cleansers. It can help strengthen digestion and rid the body of any nasty waste, thus detoxifying the body naturally. It aids digestions, ideal for anyone suffering from digestive issues.

Turmeric: A natural anti-inflammatory, boosts the immune system. Fights bacterial and viral infections.
