Top-notch, handmade ice cream. The servings of both hard and custard ice cream are massive, and worth the sometimes short wait. The selection of flavors is as big as the servings, but we love the maple, chocolate and strawberry the best. Pro-tip: the baby size may still be too much. $

There’s something for everyone here for breakfast and lunch, paired with local beer and wine. We like the down-home, childhood classics: ribs, ham clubs, roast beef sandwich, grilled cheese. Bonus -- there’s ice cream, too! $

Chef-owner Michael Simpson has traveled Europe, and taken classes at the Culinary Institute in Napa and Hyde Park, so while the setting is incredibly retro, and the menu is classic, the food is often forward-thinking. Favorites include Creole Mussels in cognac cream, Four Spice Duck, and the Bacon-Crusted Salmon with leek cream. $$$
