SWEET | February 2019: New York "Sweet" State of Mind

Legendary New York writer Washington Irving once beautifully said, “A kind heart is a fountain of gladness, making everything in its vicinity freshen into smiles.” In a world with too much mean dominating our news headlines, we are inspired to be in a “Sweet” State of Mind, celebrating kindness and love in this “short and sweet” month of February. After all, Valentine’s Day is on the 14th -- what holiday could be sweeter than that?!

In the Magazine we will tell sugary stories (think delicious homemade fruit jams and other sweet desserts), and romantic ones, too, such as our guide to surprising your sweetie with a special New York Valentine’s Day. If you have ever wondered how baking “artists” are able to create cake-filled masterpieces that look just like polar bears or fondant-sculpted, hand-painted peonies that adorn a stunning five-tier cake, we suggest you stay tuned for our story on Kate Sullivan and her NYC-based business, Cake Power. We are also planning a visit to Sugar House Creamery in a few weeks. The property, and the story of how Sugar House Creamery came to be, are oh-so charming and worthy of exploring. We look forward to sharing our experience with all of you. And on the topic of properties, we launched our very first New York real estate column, “Nest in New York”, in the Magazine last month. The column will return this month featuring -- the most darling, dare we say -- “Sweetest” New York love nests we could find.

On the Marketplace, we hope you will shop from our many “Sweet” offerings, like Hudson Valley Marshmallow Company’s marshmallow and hot chocolate bundles, les collines’ Strawberry Preserve with Lapsang Souchong, Catskill Provisions’ Chocolate Honey Truffles, Joan Hornig Jewelry’s Herkimer Diamond necklace (makes for a great “sweetheart” gift!), Mt. Nebo Gallery’s Sugar Sugar Jigsaw Puzzle, and even New York Maker’s own “Make <3” Mug! Look for curated collections to browse through -- have you caught the “Sweet” bug yet?!

Spotted on the streets of NYC!

May your February be filled with nothing but -- of course! -- sweetness!
