INDUSTRIOUS | September 2018: New York “Industrious” State of Mind

Summer 2018 — that’s a wrap! You will be greatly missed. I so enjoyed, as many of us did, traveling and catching up with family and friends. My car tires logged hundreds and hundreds of miles these past few months, transporting me to some of my favorite well-known New York State places like Hudson, Catskill, Newburgh, Buffalo and Niagara, Rochester, Sharon Springs, Binghamton, and lesser-known, delightful spots like Coram on Long Island, Lyndonville on Lake Ontario, and Mountaindale in the Catskills. The summer never seems long enough to pack in all of our wish-list adventures. The rest now have to wait because it’s time to rechannel our energy into the industrious zest for work, work, work!

The New York Makers team is on the brink of unveiling two major projects we have kept under wraps for quite some time now. Hint A: one is holiday-related and very grand. Hint B: the other is a fresh, new look we will be sporting very, very soon! We have been working incredibly hard on both and look forward to sharing them with you.

Can you guess what we are working on with New York maker Tim Jones at Stissing Design Studio in Pine Plains?

Speaking of holidays, all of us in the retail industry start planning for them in the beginning of the year. Most of our makers have been preparing for several months now, stocking up on those handmade items that fly off the virtual shelves in just a few weeks. It is actually not too early to start shopping for gifts. Really. I mean it. By December 20th, I always wish we had another month to put time and effort into thoughtful shopping. I recommend taking September to organize yourself; who are you buying for, what do they like. Here’s a collection to help spark ideas. We will be adding to this collection as we get closer to Fall so keep checking back!

With a final farewell to Summer, we welcome mighty September and embrace an “Industrious” State of Mind. Back to work and school, productivity is on the rise once more -- especially here in the Empire State. Our collective spirits are recharged, and we are ready to tackle anything! So let’s get out there and make it happen!

Event Reminder: Join us next in person at our New York Makers Market at Harvest Festival September 15 and 16 in Sharon Springs, New York, with our friends The Beekman Boys, and 25+ of our New York makers.
