SEASONED | November 2018: New York “Seasoned” State of Mind

November has us in a “Seasoned” State of Mind for a few “mm mm gooood” reasons. First, the holiday season is upon us. And with that, we look forward to enjoying the literal seasonings of the season -- sage, pumpkin spices, hot apple cider with cinnamon. We tend to eat a lot in November, particularly warm and hearty meals, often made and savored with our pals, crescendoing into with Thanksgiving -- the month’s festive, “foodie” highlight where we leave the table grateful and groaning. So here’s our fair November warning: we’re going to talk quite a bit about the New York agriculture and food scene, particularly in the Capital Region, with the goal of getting you, too, in a “Seasoned” State of Mind.

From the local wo+man-powered farm initiative Pitney Meadows Community Farm in Saratoga Springs, which aims to bring together residents to build a holistic, self-supporting local food system, to delicious, zesty recipes from student chefs of the Culinary Program at Schenectady Community College, there will be more food-talk than you can handle...unless you are like us, constantly consuming hunger-inducing media all the time.

We will also be sharing Albany-based entrepreneur Jeffrey Mirel’s story -- a man for all seasons. He founded Albany Barn, an abandoned school converted to literally shelter artists and give them a space to create and share resources. And highlighting our very own talented Helderberg blacksmith, Noah Khoury.

These and other great food and seasonal-inspired topics are coming your way this November.
