The New York Makers editorial calendar is set months in advance. Usually that works well, but this month, we aren't feeling it yet. "Polar" was our planned January New York State of Mind. The ground has already frozen and thawed in Columbia County. Unpredictability has become our new normal when it comes to weather expectations.
While weather isn't everything, here in the New York, it can influence much of life during this wintery time of the year -- our clothing, sports (skiing, snow-shoeing, and ice-fishing, as just three) and other activities, foods, travel, sometimes work (starting with our farmers), and travel our vocabulary ("lake effect" for one!)...
Sure does mess with our own knowledge of ourselves and our community! We all have to be open to adapting to new ways. And what better time than the first month of a new year for adopting a new mindset?! So we are going to go with "Open" as the theme for our January edition!
