About The Ardent Homesteader
The Ardent Homesteader was founded by Kristin Nelson who lives in New York's beautiful Hudson Valley with her husband and three boys. Despite some earlier serious gardening, their homesteading journey truly began in 2010 with their first chickens, or, as Kristin likes to call them, the "gateway animal". The Nelsons now raise a small number of cows, pigs, and poultry in addition to their ever-evolving garden.
Kristin reads cookbooks and food magazines like novels and loves to experiment in the kitchen. A few years ago, after she made her first batch of caramel and found it not quite what she was looking for, she decided to play around. It took a few tries to get it to match what she had imagined the perfect caramel to be, but when she did...WOW.
Caramel sauce became Kristin’s signature gift and was often requested by friends and family. After repeatedly hearing “you should sell this magic stuff” she decided to heed the advice. In 2014 The Ardent Homesteader Inc. and its flagship product, Cara-Sel salted caramel sauce, was born.
