About Pet Portrait Fun
Michele Cahill brings pet lovers and art together. Her Pet Portrait Fun illustrations are uniquely personalized to tell a story, and she likes to emphasize the word personality in her portraits because she believes pets are full of them.
Michele has wanted to draw animals for a living since she was in grade school. Now, she is a NYC artist with a BFA from Syracuse University, majoring in illustration, and she has been painting and illustrating professionally since 1998. For many years, she worked as a graphic designer for companies such as Disney, Warner Bros., and Nickelodeon. In 2015, when she was laid off, she realized she wanted to create her own business where she could combine her love for animals and art. She got her certification to be a professional dog trainer (CPDT-KA) and learned about dog behavior. It was clear to her then that painting people's beloved pets and showing them how to paint pet portraits was her true passion.
Initially, she started her own business with her unique custom pet portraits. She then started "Paint Your Own Pet Parties" at pet friendly venues in NYC, where customers she works with live, and she invites their furry friends to come along with them to the party. After being featured in the NY Times, the demand for her "Paint Your Own Pet Portrait" grew, and she developed "Paint Your Own Pet: DIY Art Kit."
Michele makes it easy for pet lovers to watercolor their own pets from a sketch that she draws, prior to them tracing and water coloring on their own. As a true animal lover, she volunteers weekly at the New York Animal Care Center, working to help improve the behavior issues of shelter dogs.
