Throughout Summer 2013 we shared Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC)'s wide ranging outdoor activities with you. Though the links in the story are specific to Summer 2013 events, we encourage you to peruse these adventures and keep an eye out for repeats in future summers. AMC makes it easy to explore the best of New York State's great outdoors.
We’ve climbed to the halfway point of our summer hiking series, and this weekend we’re inviting you to challenge yourself to some extraordinary hikes throughout the state. Pack Bill Bryson’s “A Walk in the Woods” to read in between legs and wrap yourself in the spectacular final vestiges of summer in New York’s famous mountain ranges. These hikes fall under AMC’s more advanced (and experience is necessary for most), but the beauty and reward of reaching these Catskill and Adirondack peaks are undoubtedly worth the challenge and the journey.
Climb “rough, steep, unmarked herdpaths” to the four summits of the Seward Range. This adventure covers roughly 27 miles over three days, featuring strenuous summit hiking and incredible (and rewarding) views.
Climb the renowned Shawangunks this Saturday to experience some of the coolest rock climbing in the state.
