THE RIPEST (PUN-INTENDED) DISHWARE

POSTED: 23 Jul 2013 | BY: SOPHIE HAYS

Hand-grown, hand-picked, and (actually, though) handmade in Buffalo are some of our favorite Western New York products: true to size apple-sculpted cups, grapefruit-sculpted bowls — even a watermelon-sculpted serving bowl — brighten up any dinner party and dishware cabinet.

VEGETABOWLS

They say you are what you eat, and we say you're also what you eat from. Melanie and Justin, the creative geniuses behind Vegetabowls, slip-cast this line of dishwasher-safe pottery directly from real fruits and vegetables. Each piece is then individually hand-painted with non-toxic, food-safe glazes to remarkable trompe-l'oeil effect. A born and bred New York brand, Melanie and Justin both received their BFAs from Alfred University in Alfred, NY, and now live in Melanie's hometown of Buffalo. Among other sources, the New York-grown produce from the just-down-the-street North Tonawanda Farmer's Market provides major inspiration for their castings from season to season.

Pair Vegetabowls with NYSOM Products from Other Regions:

Try serving some of our other Marketplace products from different regions in these fruitful pieces! We’re thinking Catskill Provisions’ Chocolate Honey Truffles in the Honeydew Melon Bowl, or an ice-creamy treat doused in Sundaes Best Hot Fudge Sauce in the Apple Cup. (You could even add some good taste to the Cabbage Bowl by storing your favorite jewelry.)
